Unique

Meriam Webster defines “unique” as being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else–some of its synonyms are individual, special, quirky, and unrepeatable. This month I had the privilege of photographing 24 families from their front porch, with their uniqueness on full display. Even in their attire, some wearing workout clothes, some taking advantage of the moment by dressing up for the first time in weeks, and others still wearing pajamas, each photo completely unique. There were some families whose porches were in the middle of a renovation, something I probably wouldn’t have been able to shoot before. Some were undergoing unforeseen renovations by turning their homes into a work office. Each family unrepeatable from the one prior, and not even remotely similar. Each family having their own story to tell, and these photos only show a glimpse of their full tale. Now, these families will have these photos for an eternity in hopes to remember this time, as according to one of my clients, as, “a strange dream and hopefully in the not too distant future, these pictures will be a special reminder of all this loved family time.” I hope you look back at these for years to come and remember your daughter dancing around the living room, being able to witness your son’s first steps, cherishing those last few weeks as a family of 3, the joy of having all four boys home for the day instead of the stress of online schooling, and finding unconventional and creative ways to celebrate your senior’s accomplishment. That is just a glimpse of the many more stories I heard and saw as I visited your homes and witnessed the chaos, the joy, and the love all running together. You and your homes are beautiful. I hope you cherish each unique picture as we all move forward. Day by day, step by step, phase by phase…don’t forget the joy, the uniqueness, the love you have found in these last few weeks.
